Retest upgrade: your key values over time

The Retest upgrade adds extra blood tests to your annual Core blood test within the contract year. Each retest measures 46 key values from the Core panel, so you can see whether a change in diet, training or supplements shows up in your values. The upgrade can only be booked with an active NOA Core membership.

Who is it for?

The Retest upgrade is for you if you are changing something and want to know whether it shows in your values. A single blood test is a snapshot. Only several measurements over the year show which way a value is moving and whether a change in diet, training or supplements is making a difference.

When you book, you choose how many retests you want in the contract year. Each retest is a separate blood draw at an NOA Health Lab, and the results appear in your dashboard next to your previous values. If you would like to go through the results of a retest with a doctor, you can book an additional doctor consultation separately.

Common reasons

Typical reasons for a retest include:

  • You have changed your diet
  • You have started training or are training much more than before
  • You take supplements such as vitamin D or iron
  • You want to follow up a goal from your doctor consultation
  • A value was outside its target range last time
  • Your weight or daily routine has changed noticeably

The Retest upgrade requires an active NOA Core membership. Your retests apply to the contract year you booked them for and cannot be carried over to the next year; we will remind you in good time about any retests you have not used. A doctor consultation is not included in a retest, but you can book one separately if you need it.

What the values show

Blood count

Red and white blood cells with their main subtypes, haemoglobin, haematocrit, the red cell indices and platelets. This shows you how your blood count develops between two Core panels.

Blood lipids and blood sugar

Total, LDL, HDL and non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and ApoB, plus fasting glucose and HbA1c. Ratios such as triglycerides to HDL and the TyG index show how these values interact. After a change in diet or training, this is often the part you will look at most.

Liver, kidneys and electrolytes

The liver enzymes ALT, AST and gamma-GT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin and albumin, along with creatinine, eGFR and uric acid. The electrolytes sodium, potassium and calcium complete the picture.

Iron, vitamin D and inflammation

Ferritin, serum iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation, plus vitamin D and high-sensitivity CRP. If you supplement iron or vitamin D, this is where you see how your values develop over the year.

Thyroid and biological age

TSH as the key control value of the thyroid. NOA also calculates your biological age using the PhenoAge model after every retest, so you can follow it through the year.

What only the Core panel measures

Some values are only measured in the annual Core blood test, for example fasting insulin, cystatin C, vitamin B12, folate, cortisol and the sex hormones. Add-on packages such as Performance, Hormone Balance or Omega-3 Index are not part of a retest.

How to prepare

You receive the same advice by email before your appointment.

  • Pause supplements. No supplements until the draw, for example biotin, iron, multivitamins or omega-3. Ideally stop biotin 2–3 days beforehand. Preparations prescribed by a doctor count as medication.
  • No hard training 24–48 hours before. Intense sessions distort inflammation and muscle values (hs-CRP, CK, ferritin). A gentle walk is fine.
  • No alcohol 24 hours before. It affects the liver values.
  • Drink plenty of water. At least 1 litre of water the day before and in the morning. Good hydration makes the blood draw easier.
  • Come fasting. Eat nothing for the last 12 hours beforehand (for glucose, insulin and blood lipids). Water is allowed and even encouraged.
  • Coffee only after the draw. Even unsweetened. Only once your blood has been taken.
  • Medication as usual. Take it as usual.
  • Rested and relaxed. Stress and rushing shortly before can affect individual values.

How it works

  1. Take out your NOA Core membership online and add the panels you want.
  2. Book a morning appointment at an NOA Health Lab near you.
  3. Come fasting: the blood draw takes about 15 minutes on site.
  4. Your values are usually in your dashboard within 4 working days.
  5. In the doctor consultation by video, you go through what matters for you.
