NOA Core membership: your annual blood test with a doctor consultation

The NOA Core membership includes a comprehensive blood test with the Core panel and its 102 values in every contract year. You see your results in your personal dashboard, linked to your wearable data if you like. In a video consultation, a doctor from the NOA partner network goes through your values with you and puts them into context.

Who is it for?

The NOA Core membership is for adults who want to keep an eye on their health over the long term, with prevention in mind. You don't need a specific reason: wanting to know where you stand and how your values change over the years is enough. Your blood is taken at an NOA Health Lab near you, and you then find your values in the web app at app.noa.health, linked to your Garmin, Oura or Whoop.

Once your values are in, you book your doctor consultation by video. Your doctor prepares with your values and the details you gave during onboarding, then talks you through what matters for you and what you can actually do. The Core panel is also the base for everything else: add-on packages for training, hormones, Lp(a) or omega-3 are analysed from the same blood sample, and the Retest upgrade lets you see your key values more often during the year.

Common reasons

There are plenty of good reasons to know your values, for example:

  • You often feel tired or lacking in drive
  • You have been under a lot of stress for a while
  • Your weight or metabolism is on your mind
  • You sleep poorly or your mood changes a lot
  • You want to know where you stand, as a matter of prevention
  • Heart disease or diabetes runs in your family
  • Your last comprehensive blood test was a long time ago
  • You have changed your diet, training or daily routine
  • You want to see your wearable data alongside your blood values

NOA is designed for adults who want to look after their health preventively. It complements your care but does not replace your GP or specialist. If you have acute symptoms, your doctor is the right place to go, and in an emergency call the emergency services. If you are pregnant, please do not take out a membership for now, as many blood values need to be interpreted differently during pregnancy.

What the values show

Blood count and immune system

The full blood count measures red and white blood cells and platelets, and breaks the white blood cells down into their different types. It also includes haemoglobin, haematocrit and red cell indices such as MCV. Ratios calculated from these, such as NLR or SII, give an impression of how active your immune system is.

Blood lipids and ApoB

Alongside total, LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides, the Core panel measures apolipoprotein B. ApoB reflects the number of particles that carry cholesterol in your blood. Ratios such as triglycerides to HDL or total cholesterol to HDL help you see the values in context.

Blood sugar and insulin

Fasting glucose, HbA1c and fasting insulin show how your body handles sugar. HbA1c reflects your blood sugar over a longer period, not just on the morning of your blood draw. Indices such as HOMA-IR put glucose and insulin in relation to each other.

Inflammation

High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) picks up even low levels of inflammatory activity in the body. Ratios with albumin or ferritin relate it to other values. This lets you follow how it changes over the years.

Liver

The liver enzymes ALT, AST and gamma-GT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, albumin and total protein give a picture of your liver. Calculated indices such as the FIB-4 index or the hepatic steatosis index combine several of these values.

Kidneys

Creatinine and cystatin C are two independent ways of estimating how well your kidneys filter. Your eGFR is calculated from each of them and from both combined. Uric acid is measured as well.

Iron, vitamins and minerals

Ferritin shows your iron stores, while serum iron, transferrin and transferrin saturation show how iron is transported in your blood. The panel also covers vitamin D, active vitamin B12 and folate, plus the electrolytes sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphate.

Thyroid and hormones

TSH is the key control value of the thyroid. Morning cortisol, testosterone, SHBG and the free testosterone calculated from them give a first look at your hormones, for women and men alike. Further hormones such as free T3 and T4, oestradiol, LH and FSH are part of the Hormone Balance add-on package.

Biological age

From several blood values and your chronological age, NOA calculates your biological age using Levine's PhenoAge model. It is a summary of your values, not a diagnosis. It tells you most when you follow it over the years.

How to prepare

You receive the same advice by email before your appointment.

  • Pause supplements. No supplements until the draw, for example biotin, iron, multivitamins or omega-3. Ideally stop biotin 2–3 days beforehand. Preparations prescribed by a doctor count as medication.
  • No hard training 24–48 hours before. Intense sessions distort inflammation and muscle values (hs-CRP, CK, ferritin). A gentle walk is fine.
  • No alcohol 24 hours before. It affects the liver values.
  • Drink plenty of water. At least 1 litre of water the day before and in the morning. Good hydration makes the blood draw easier.
  • Come fasting. Eat nothing for the last 12 hours beforehand (for glucose, insulin and blood lipids). Water is allowed and even encouraged.
  • Coffee only after the draw. Even unsweetened. Only once your blood has been taken.
  • Medication as usual. Take it as usual.
  • Rested and relaxed. Stress and rushing shortly before can affect individual values.

How it works

  1. Take out your NOA Core membership online and add the panels you want.
  2. Book a morning appointment at an NOA Health Lab near you.
  3. Come fasting: the blood draw takes about 15 minutes on site.
  4. Your values are usually in your dashboard within 4 working days.
  5. In the doctor consultation by video, you go through what matters for you.
